Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Nov. 2007 Contact: Khuong Phan Director of Public Relations, nycTIES 352-634-4270 Non-profits become partners and plan November benefit NEW YORK - In furthering its mission to support and foster lasting relationships with charities in the city, nycTIES is proud to announce its partnership with Career Gear. The culmination of the pair's joint charitable efforts will be the benefit fashion show, "In purSUIT of Happiness," on Nov. 12 at Arena. "Career Gear is the perfect fit for our next partnership", says Alex Price, co-founder of nycTIES. "Most of our young professionals are living in this city to pursue big career dreams, so Career Gear's goal to help disadvantaged men pursue their dreams connected with us very deeply. It's inspiring! This partnership has really changed the way we view life in New York City." In a little more than a year since its inception, nycTIES (www.nycties.org), a non-profit service organization comprised of young New York professionals, has raised $56,000 through partnerships with such charities as the American Heart Association, Harlem RBI, Gilda's Club and the Ronald McDonald House. In addition to raising money and awareness for local charities, nycTIES has provided hundreds of volunteer hours and has successfully facilitated relationships between its some 150 members and local causes. Continuing to build on its success, nycTIES has now focused its attention on Career Gear (www.careergear.org), a non-profit organization whose mission is to help disadvantaged men find employment and self-sufficiency. With the slogan, "a suit - second chance," Career Gear provides its clients - all of whom have endured some kind of hardship - with appropriate business attire in hopes of building their confidence and to help them secure gainful employment. Career Gear's work does not just stop with clothing, however, as continuing services include, job retention and advancement skills and linkages to other resources and community-based agencies. Gary Field founded Career Gear in 1998 in his living room and has seen the organization successfully help some 17,500 men over the years, gain referral services from 60 New York charitable and government agencies and grow to include affiliates in Boston, Houston, Miami and Washington D.C. But as Career Gear continues to grow so does its client list, and the organization's leadership expects to aid upwards of 1,000 New York City men this year alone. The number is up from 843 in 2006. There is also a great need to help further services, with Career Gear particularly looking to fund a full-time alumni director position. In looking for help, Field and company turned to nycTIES. "Career Gear is built on volunteerism and the fact that nycTIES is all volunteer-run and driven, really spoke to us," Field said. "We have such a perfect alignment with the group and with both of our missions, that's it such a natural fit and we're thrilled to be working with them." On Nov. 12, nycTIES and Career Gear will present a men's fashion show at Arena (135 41st Street (between 6th and 7th Aves.) In addition to the show, the evening will have a sponsored bar, entertainment, silent auction, necktie donation drive and raffle. |
