NAC Olympics
nycTIES found itself sharing the field with bona fide champions on June 21 as a dozen of the group's members braved a muggy, scorcher of a Saturday in support of their newest charity partner, New Alternatives for Children (NAC).

Decked out in shorts, shades and much-needed sunscreen, nycTIES members devoted a full day at Riverbank State Park in support of NAC Kids Olympics. The annual event allows children, who are saddled with a host of mental and physical challenges, enjoy a day in the sun, and hopefully gives them a bit of a respite from the rigors of everyday life. More than 400 kids came to compete in a variety of events including Wiffle Ball, bean bag tosses, potato sack races, wheelchair sprints, basketball and soccer.
Whether it was shagging foul balls, painting faces, sharing lunch with families or failing rather miserably at both hula hooping and double-Dutch jump roping, the young professionals of nycTIES had a thrill cheering on some of the warmest, strongest and most inspiring children in all of New York City.
The day culminated with a ceremony during which every child who participated was celebrated with high-fives, boisterous cheers and a gold medal. As first pre-events go, they really couldn't have been more fun or fulfilling as this. "nycTIES volunteers helped make the Olympics a tremendous success," said Jessica Lutzke, NAC's director of Volunteers and Community Relations. "They were truly interested in helping the children and their enthusiasm and energy were amazing. We are so happy to have them onboard as volunteers and new friends of NAC." |
